ASUS Ereader with an 6 inch full colour OLED

The next generation of Ebook Readers has been revealed. Asus' solution is to move away from E Ink and embrace OLED (organic light-emitting diode) screens for its upcoming Asus Ereader DR-570.

OLED displays consist of pixels which emit their own light, thereby doing away with the need for external backlighting. This allows the panel to become exceptionally thin, while potentially saving power.

The Asus DR-570 Ereader packs Wi-Fi and 3G connection for over the air downloads, and a 6-inch full-color OLED display for vibrant, full-colour magazines and books, as well as Flash video support and a impressive battery life of just over five days with real-world usage.

No pricing details are available for this e-reader but we expect the DR-570 to be pretty expensive.
